Muqtada Sadr washed his hands and denied any role in the beheading of individuals shown in video clips posted on social media. Claims were made that Sadr’s followers had carried out these heinous crimes. Sadr issued a statement calling for the sanctioning of any individual that beheads others in the name of religion.

He said he knows the elements behind this crime and to whom they are linked to, calling on the government to arrest any and all individuals seen in this video clip, or he will personally take action to have them arrested.

Muqtada Sadr: "What these despicable people carried out in these beheadings, or had them shown in a symbolic way, despite their so-called association to the religion of Islam, are a true crime against religion itself. As a result from now they no longer belong to this religion and are no longer followers of the religion of Imam Ali, and they deserve retribution and the government must arrest them".
