An official Iranian statistics affirmed, for the first time, that 2,100 soldiers from the Iranian forces were killed in Syria and Iraq during seven years of Iranian military intervention.

Iran didn’t publish earlier any official statistics about the material and human costs of its forces' intervention, but it announced on Tuesday that 2,100 trees were planted equal to the number of those killed in battles in Syria and Iraq.

This took place within events held on the occasion of Iran's National Tree Planting Day.

Pictures of tree planting beside Khomeini's shrine were circulated, in the presence of Tehran municipality board members.

The statistics confirm previously announced data by Mohammad Ali Shahidi, the head of Iran's Martyr Foundation, one year ago but the results weren’t adopted by official authorities back then.

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani described the Iranian presence in Iran as costly, on the sidelines of his meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drianon Monday.

Quds Force leads pro-Iran multinational militias, which have been present in Syria since seven years, in addition to Iraq. Yet, Iran claims that the nature of its presence is consultative following an official request by Baghdad and Damascus.

Iranian authorities call its dead fighters in Syria “Shrine Defenders” which confirm the ideological motives pushing them to fight there.

Humaid Mohebi, vice president of intelligence in IRGC, revealed days earlier that there were internal disputes among Iranian officials with the beginning of support to Bashar Assad.

He added that former Iranian President Ahmadinejad objected over the Iranian support to Assad. Mohebi quoted Ahmadinejad as saying that no costs should be paid in Syria because Assad ruling is over.

Iranians, during protests end of 2017, shouted slogans against the Iranian intervention in Syria, Iraq and Palestine.
